World Class

Andrew Hudson provided the Management Board with an update on the position of the World Class Programme.

Geographic information System (GIS)

Paul Sanderson updated the Management Board in relation to a proposed GIS for the Agency. Further research would be carried out to input into a further discussion.

Improving Performance Across the Agency

This item was a discussion on proposed HR actions to help tackle poor performance more effectively. The focus is on clear, robust policies, addressing the issues of managing performance and supporting and equipping line managers in dealing with performance issues.

Agency Performance

This item was a discussion on performance and in particular the key performance indicators where the outlook was not at green.

Stephen Wright reviewed the local taxation indicators. He told the meeting that the figures for overall customer satisfaction would not be available until the second quarter, so this indicator had been set at amber/green as a precaution. Progress was being made on the turnaround on council tax reports, in England, and productivity. Providing a considered decision within 2 months for rating and council tax appeals had fallen, and investigations were under way to look at what had impacted on these indicators.

Steve Prendergast updated the meeting in relation to the DVS performance indicators. Turnaround on Inheritance tax cases had improved slightly this month, but still remained at amber/green, as did turnaround on Capital Gains tax cases, which had fallen from last month. These continued to be monitored and addressed.

Steve Hartnell gave an overview of the HR performance indicators and advised that the indicators on average sick leave remained at red, and that the average days had increased this month for the first time for some time.

People Committee Report

The purpose of this paper submitted by Andrew Hudson was to provide the Management Board with a report of the People Committee meeting held on 28 June 2007.

The Management Board noted the report and agreed with the proposed actions on succession and contingency planning.
