Notes for Editors

The VOA is an executive agency of the Inland Revenue with around 4000 employees. Its main activities (in England and Wales only) are valuations for rating and banding of properties for council tax. In Scotland, England and Wales the agency establishes valuations for Inheritance and Capital Gains tax for the Inland Revenue, for right to buy and carries out valuations of land and buildings for a wide range of public sector clients.

The VOA's Chief Executive, Michael Johns is supported by a Management Board consisting of VOA senior managers and two non-executive directors. During 2000, an Advisory Board, chaired by the Chairman of the Board of Inland Revenue, was also set up to support the VOA. The new board comprises senior representatives from the client departments and the VOA's non-executive directors.
