Council tax

We understand that people whose homes have been affected by the recent flooding may be wondering whether that will lead to a change in their council tax banding. Although certain local changes can lead to changes in council tax banding, this is not always the case. Details of when a banding can be changed can be found here.

If your home has been affected by flooding and you want to know whether this can be reflected in your council tax banding, you should contact your local Valuation Office on

0845 602 1507 for properties in England and 0845 600 1748 for properties in Wales. Circumstances vary, but our staff will do their best to advise you based upon your individual circumstances.

Business rates

Similarly, if your business property has been affected and you believe the rateable value should be reduced, you can discuss this with us on the numbers above. Again, the flooding will not automatically mean a reduction, individual circumstances will apply, and our staff will do their best to advise you. Our advice is to act quickly and contact us, as it may be difficult for us to offer assistance if we are not notified of your circumstances until after repair work is completed. If you wish to submit a proposal to alter the rating list online you can do it here.

If you are in any doubt about your situation please do speak to us and we’ll do everything we can to help.
