The Valuation Office Agency is working with Dacorum Borough and St Albans District councils to support local people whose properties were either destroyed or damaged by the Buncefield Oil Depot Explosion.
Depending on the severity of the damage sustained, occupiers of properties affected by the blast may be entitled to a reduction in business rates or council tax.
Our advice to occupiers is to act quickly. It may be difficult for us to offer assistance if we are not notified of your circumstances until after repair work is completed. We need to assess the extent of the damage, so any evidence such as photographs or structural reports should be submitted to us as soon as possible. This will help to ensure that any reduction to business rates or council tax can be effected quickly.
Occupiers who feel they need to discuss the details of the damage to their property should phone our helpline number: 01727 774700. The help line is available from Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm (except public holidays).
If you are in any doubt, please do speak to us and we’ll do everything we can to help.
