Services
Compiling and maintaining lists of the rateable values of
the 1.6 million commercial properties in England and 100,000
in Wales.
Compiling and maintaining the lists of council tax bandings
of around 21.7 million domestic properties in England and
1.3 million in Wales.
Chief Valuers for Scotland and Wales providing services to
the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly Government.
Providing valuation advice to HMRC in connection
with capital gains, inheritance tax and other compliance
work.
Advising Government Ministers on property valuation matters.
Delivering a range of non-statutory valuation and estate surveying services
for Government Departments and the wider public sector.

Latest Revaluation of Council Tax

The Revaluation planned for England for April 2007 has been postponed and Ministers have said they do not believe it will occur during this Parliament.
Contribution to Local Taxation
The VOA’s rating and council tax valuations provide the base valuation
data for the collection of around £37 billion of local taxation
a year.

Risk Management
The Management Board prioritises the risks facing the Agency
on an annual basis then regularly reviews these throughout
the year.
Directors monitor these risks as part of their normal operational
tasks and formally report on them quarterly.
The reports are examined at meetings of the Agency’s Audit Committee.
All projects and divisional plans identify risks and appropriate
risk management strategies
Governance
A Management Board (with 25% non-executive membership) led
by a Chief Executive who is appointed by, and reports to,
the Chairman of the Board of HM Revenue & Customs.
The Chairman’s role is supported by an Advisory Board representing
our main clients and non-executives .
The Minister with responsibility for the Agency is the Paymaster
General who formally announces the Agency’s key targets to Parliament.
Policy is set by Ministers of the client Departments.
