Ministers have decided to postpone the council tax revaluation in England. The Government does not believe that a revaluation will occur during this Parliament.
Before embarking on a revaluation, the Government wishes to consider the wider functions of local government and its future role. It is extending both the scope and the length of the current, independent Inquiry into local government finance led by Sir Michael Lyons.
