Council Taxpayers warned about telephone scam

Fraudsters are calling council taxpayers telling them their council tax band has been reduced, and requesting bank details and dates of birth to process the refund. If you receive such a call contact the police. Your local office can help if you have a query relating to your council tax banding.

One of the main responsibilities of the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) is allocating the correct council tax band to all homes in England and Wales.

The most recent revaluation of council tax bands in Wales came into effect on 1 April 2005.  The current council tax bands in England came into effect on 1 April 1993. There are no current plans to carry out a council tax revaluation in England and Wales.

Wherever you live, you can check your current council tax band in the Council tax list   Taxpayers in Wales can also look at their previous band.
