Requesting Information

Your Rights

The law gives you the right to ask the Valuation Office Agency for the information you want, providing we have not already published it. Guidance on what we publish is in our ‘Publication Scheme’ .

First you need to decide whether you want personal information about you or if you want other information held by the Agency.

Information about yourself

To obtain personal information you will make a request under the Data Protection Act you will need to include the following information in your request:

  • Your name
  • An address for written correspondence
  • A description of the information you are seeking
  • A telephone number if possible, in case we need to discuss your request with you

Information held by the VOA

If we hold the information you want, have not already published it, and it is not exempt, we will normally provide it in the form you request e.g. a copy, or a summary, or we will arrange for you to see it. There may be a fee for some of our information to cover the cost of providing it.

If we don’t hold the information you want, or it is ‘exempt information’, or there is a fee then we will first write and tell you.

When making your request you must include:

  • Your name
  • An address for correspondence
  • As full a description as possible of the information you are seeking

It would be also be helpful if you gave a telephone number in case we need to discuss your request with you.
