Business Rates > How to appeal

If you have reason to believe your rateable value is wrong, you need to let us know.  Contact your local office and talk to someone on the business rates team, who will answer your questions and explain how the rateable value has been allocated to your property.  We will do all we can to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

Before talking to us, you may find it useful to compare your rateable value with other properties in your area or properties of a similar type.

A formal appeal

If, having spoken to us, you still have reason to believe the rateable value is wrong, you can make a formal appeal, or 'proposal to alter the rating list'. In most cases you can submit an appeal online.
